The City in a Forest

Atlanta is nicknamed "the city in a forest" because of the lush tree canopy that still exists today. An aerial view will show you a city carved out of greenery, and that's just the way we like it.

FIND A MOMENT TO BREATHE

Feel like you're getting away from the bustle without going far from home. In Atlanta lingo, that means you don’t have to go outside the perimeter (OTP) to catch a breath of fresh air. And with conservation efforts in place around ATL, the green spaces you love will stay safe.

SPACE FOR ALL

Whether you're planning your next family picnic, playing frisbee in the park or simply soaking up the sun, there's space for you in Atlanta. Find parks, trails and recreation areas to get your outdoors on.

The Beltline

Where some saw old railroad corridors, Atlanta saw 22 miles of opportunity. The city transformed the corridors into five open trails, seven parks and a blank canvas for local art — all while supporting local businesses. Today, the BeltLine connects many of Atlanta's unique neighborhoods.

The Outdoors Are Calling

BREAK A SWEAT

Take a hike on the Northside Trail or break out your mat for King of Pops yoga. Go for a quick run around Grant Park or work on your serve at Candler Park's tennis court.

Work up a sweat with free classes at the Home Depot Backyard and Shed Sweat at Ponce City Market. Whatever your workout style, Atlanta makes it easy.

OR COOL IT DOWN

Not in the mood for a workout? There’s plenty of green space if you want to kick back with a good book or a bottle of wine. Atlanta knows how to hustle and when to relax.

Oakland Cemetery

Oakland Cemetery is one of Atlanta’s most intriguing attractions. Its rich history, magnolia-lined gardens and gothic architecture paint a picture of the city's storied past and provide a backdrop for its exciting future.
